SOUTHWARK TRAVELLERS ACTION GROUP – STAG
Southwark Travellers Action Group is funded by Dion, Neighborhood Renewal Fund and Sure Start (West Peckham) and works with Travellers across Southwark living on four sites and in housed accommodation. STAG works to create links and increase awareness across mainstream agencies of the Traveller community and its needs, making services more appropriate and responsive. STAG delivers services to the Traveller community in Southwark and aims to empower them to meet their own needs. The project provides advice and advocacy to the community, a nursery project, a women’s group and men’s football. The project is
also training and empowering Travellers to play a full role in STAG and in the
wider community. Two Travellers are currently employed as trainees and
will be helped to gain work experience and skills in community development work.
STAG has also recently appointed a Health Worker to improve access to health
care for the community. STAG
also works closely with Southwark Travellers Education Project, Travellers Youth
Project and Blackfriars Advice Centre, each of whom provides key services for
Travellers in Southwark. STAG Staff: Neal Southwick (Co-ordinator); Ann Marie O’Brien (Community Development Worker); Kirsty Suttle (Health Worker); Shirley Joyce (Community Development Trainee) Please contact on 020 7639 1823 for further information.
